people hurt me.

Some people just don’t get it. Here’s a conversation from some random person off shinkuro tonight.
jess4wi (23:01:03): hi
me (23:01:31): Hello.
jess4wi (23:01:32): how are you?
me (23:02:03): I’m doing fairly well.
jess4wi (23:02:19): do you have a blog?
me (23:02:39): blog.fryballs.net
me (23:02:43): I’m on the right.
me (23:03:02): it’s something of a work in progress; we’re rebuilding it presently.
jess4wi (23:03:39): you’re in japan?
me (23:04:05): no
me (23:04:06): california
jess4wi (23:05:17): what do you do?
me (23:05:52): As little as possible.
me (23:06:10): In a past life, I did network engineering and security
me (23:06:16): these days, I avoid work like the plague.
jess4wi (23:06:25): did you make this program?
me (23:06:48): nope
me (23:07:05): Steve Crocker (steve!shinkuro.com) is the ceo of shinkuro
me (23:08:13): Jeff Kay (jeff!shinkuro.com) is the CTO, and probably the guy who wrote most of the software.
jess4wi (23:08:22): i’m not sure what the point of this program is, but it’s interesting
me (23:08:41): well
me (23:08:44): it does a lot of neat things
me (23:08:46): first off
me (23:08:52): all this messaging is end-to-end encrypted
me (23:09:01): so you and I are the only ones who can see this conversation
jess4wi (23:09:08): yes! even though i’m on a wirless network?
me (23:09:27): yes.
jess4wi (23:09:31): can’t someone just capture my keystrokes?
me (23:10:06): Well, if there was software on your machine that wasn’t trustworthy, then you’re vulnerable.
me (23:10:27): But Joe Random-Person out on the network isn’t going to be able to read this conversation.
me (23:10:39): Your machine or my machine would have to be compromised for that to happen.
jess4wi (23:10:52): but the government could if they wanted to?
me (23:11:12): Doubtful.
jess4wi (23:11:27): well, i’m not a terrorist, so i don’t care
jess4wi (23:11:37): what about this screen sharing thing?
me (23:11:56): Are you fucking with me?
jess4wi (23:12:46): no, joi ito posted something about sharing desktop screens
jess4wi (23:12:58): “has a shared chat space (like IRC) and allows you to share your desktop screen with other members of the group (yes, across platforms).”
me (23:13:17): Yeah.
me (23:13:43): That’s not what I was talking about, but ok.
me (23:13:52): I haven’t tried it, but I imagine that it works.
jess4wi (23:14:10): i know, but i downloaded it so i could use that feature
me (23:14:54): Well, good luck.
jess4wi (23:15:27): what other things have you tried with this program?
me (23:16:08): Up until now, I tried to avoid people like you. It was working great until about 15 minutes ago.
jess4wi (23:16:36): sorry
me (23:17:46): You may or may not be a terrorist, but your attitude is going to destroy everything even remotely similar to a civil liberty on this planet.
jess4wi (23:17:55): lol
jess4wi (23:19:07): nobody’s ever treated me like public enemy no. 1 before…
me (23:21:11): There are those of us who are incredibly protective of our freedom and privacy. You’ll find a lot of us in the tech industry, especially in the security field. Politically, it’s people who don’t value their rights who destroy them for everyone.
me (23:21:47): You’re not public enemy #1, but your ignorance is hurting america.
jess4wi (23:22:55): hmm, so you’re trying to find out whether i voted for bush or kerry?
me (23:23:14): Goodbye.
