I’ve reorganized my desk over

I’ve reorganized my desk over the past week. It’s much nicer to work and play at now. Now I need to find some work that I can do from it.

Speaking of which, this is a good question for the group.

I want to start a consulting business, for a lot of reasons. First, I want to take all the blame for my failures, and all the credit for my accomplishments. I don’t want to bust my ass busily making money for someone else. I want to be in control of my own income; do more work when I need to, do less when I can afford to.

I think that I can be successful at consulting for a number of reasons also – every solution to a problem that I’ve come up with in my professional life has surpassed the expectations of both management and my peers. All of my extraordinarily successful projects has been something I initiated myself; I do much better under my own supervision and volition that that of others. I have a team of people ready and willing to do the work, and our skills span the entirety of information technology and security.

I have done Sales before. If you give me a name, a phone number, and a reference, I’ll call a blind man and sell him a lifetime subscription to penthouse. My problem is, I have no idea how to generate a lead. I can’t sit down at a table and figure out who my prospective customers are, nor can I develop a strategy to get into communication with them.

I have an incredible base of skill to tap into, including my own, and all the professionalism required to solve just about any relevant problem a customer has, but I just can’t find the damn customers.
